Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL blood *Pediatric minimum: 1 full microtainer*

It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the serum or plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Separated samples may be stored for up to 1 day at 20 to 25°C, at 2 to 8°C for up to 7 days, or frozen at <= -20°C for up to 2 weeks. Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove particulates prior to testing. Keep tube tightly capped for storage. A consequent decrease in the CO2 value of up to 6 mMol/L can occur in the course of an hour once the specimen has been exposed to ambient air.
