Instructions
| RHC, BCH, BPH--- Preferred tube: Lime (Lithium Heparin) plasma separator tube It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Blood should be collected anaerobically using Vacutainer® tube. Please draw separate tube for this test. Do not remove the top from the tube or lid from Microtainer® tube prior to analysis as loss of CO2 increase the pH. Pediatric Collection: Lithium Heparin Microtainer® tube acceptable only on newborns. NOTE: Blood should be collected anaerobically using Vacutainer® tube. Do not remove stopper from tube or lid from Microtainer® tube. GMH ONLY--- Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL whole blood Whole Blood specimens for Ionized Calcium should be PERFORMED WITHIN 2 HOURS of collection. |
Transport Temperature
RHC, BCH, BPH---
Must be delivered to lab within 30 minutes of collection and immediately spun to separate. It is required that the serum or plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection.
GMH ONLY---
Collect and maintain specimen under anaerobic conditions (vacutainer tube with vacuum intact).
Whole Blood specimens for Ionized Calcium should be performed within 2 hours of collection. All whole blood samples must be adequately mixed before analysis.
