Instructions

0.5 mL minimum. Joint fluids: Upstate: collect in a heparinized syringe. Joint fluids collected without heparin and placed in EDTA tube will not be rejected; however, EDTA can cause crystals to appear. Tubes with clot accelerator should be avoided for the same reason as EDTA. Midlands: Collect in a sterile container. Do not send specimen to lab with needle attached. Do not send specimen via pneumatic tube system. Other body fluids: collect in sterile container or EDTA (lavender) tube.

Transport Temperature

Stability: 4 hours optimal, held in lab for 2 weeks.
