Instructions

Minimize time tourniquet is applied. Gently invert x5 after collection. Do NOT shake or mix vigorously. Collect 2 tubes.

TO LAB IMMEDIATELY, DO NOT CENTRIFUGE TUBE, DO NOT use pneumatic tube – MUST be hand delivered to the lab, no exposure to ice or cold.

Blood tubes must be filled to the stated volume. Over or under-filled tubes will be rejected.

Adult: 2 filled (exactly 2.7 mL) Lt Blue 3.2% sodium citrate tubes AND 2 mL in Lavender EDTA tube.
Pediatric: 2 filled (exactly 1.8 mL) Lt blue 3.2% sodium citrate tubes AND at LEAST 1/2 full Lavender EDTA microtainer®.

Care must be taken to avoid contamination of the specimen with tissue thromboplastin. With difficult venipunctures, a waste tube is recommended before filling the blue tube.

Transport Temperature

Testing must be completed within 4 hours of collection. Transport to performing laboratory ASAP after collection.

DO NOT CENTRIFUGE TUBE. Do NOT expose to ice; do NOT use pneumatic tube.

Richland only: When staff drop off STAT samples at the 5 Medical Park location, a notification call must be made to 803-434-4650 (option 1) or 803-434-1595 to alert the transporter.
