Collected only in the OR, as part of Interoperative PTH Protocol. Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL blood *Pediatric minimum: 1 full microtainer* Upstate: Test manually ordered by Chemistry personnel. Midlands: Testing not performed at Prisma Health Baptist or Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge


Transport Temperature
Lab only: It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Analyze fresh specimens, if possible. Separated samples may be stored 20 to 25°C for up to 8 hours, at 2 to 8°C for up to 48 hours and frozen for up to 3 months. Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove particulates prior to testing. Do not exceed 5 freeze-thaw cycles. Specimens must be mixed THOROUGHLY after thawing, by LOW speed vortexing or by gently inverting, and centrifuged prior to use to remove red blood cells or particulate matter to ensure consistency in the results.
