Instructions
4 mL blood in yellow gel tube and 2 mL urine. Serum--At least 0.5mL of serum is needed for testing. Collect in a red top tube or serum separator tube. The blood should be spun down as soon after collection as possible. If using a red top tube, remove the serum from the red cell layer. Urine--At least 0.5-1.0mL is needed for testing. Collect in a sterile container with a tight fitting screw cap secured with self-sealing lab film, if possible.
Transport Temperature
Report all suspect cases to your regional health department (864 372 3133 or 866 298 4442 nights/weekends). Upon consultation with DHEC epidemiology staff, if your patient meets CDC criteria, arrangements can be made for specimen processing. Serum--At least 0.5mL of serum is needed for testing. Collect in a red top tube or serum separator tube. The blood should be spun down as soon after collection as possible. If using a red top tube, remove the serum from the red cell layer. Urine--At least 0.5-1.0mL is needed for testing. Collect in a sterile container with a tight fitting screw cap secured with self-sealing lab film, if possible . Store and ship cold. ZIKA antibody testing should be performed on specimens collected 4 or more days after onset of illness.
