Instructions
Adult : 6 - 2.7 mL Na Citrate tubes (light blue tubes) AND 6 mL in ACD tube (Pale yellow tube) ***Pediatric minimum : 4 - 2.7 mL Na Citrate tubes (light blue tubes) and 3 mL in ACD (Pale yellow tube)***

WHOLE BLOOD AND PLASMA ARE REQUIRED Specimen #1: Specimen Type: Whole blood Container/Tube: Preferred: Yellow top (ACD); Acceptable: EDTA, sodium citrate Specimen Volume: 6 mL Collection Instructions: 1. Invert several times to mix blood. 2. Do not transfer blood to other containers. 3. Label specimen as whole blood. Whole blood may be stored and transported at Room Temperature OR Frozen Specimen #2: Specimen Type: Platelet-poor plasma Collection Container/Tube: Light-blue top (citrate) Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vials Specimen Volume: 6 mL in 6 plastic vials each containing 1 mL Collection Instructions: 1. Specimen must be drawn prior to factor replacement therapy. 2. Spin down, remove plasma, and spin plasma again. 3. Freeze specimens immediately at < or =-40 degrees C, if possible. 4. Label specimens as plasma. 5. Send specimens in the same shipping container. Additional Information: 1. Double-centrifuged specimen is critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results. 2. Patient should not be receiving Coumadin or heparin. 3. If priority specimen, mark request form, give reason, and request a call-back.
