Other Acceptable Specimens
NON-INTERFACED LABS: PINK TOP-KEDTA: (Room Temperature) Min Vol: 1

Instructions
Collect 5 mL blood in the special PPT tube contained in the Karius collection kit. Pediatric collection: collect 1-2 mL of whole blood in appropriate K2-EDTA (lavender top) tube

Transport Temperature
PREFERRED METHOD - In Plasma Preparation Tube (PPT) 1. COLLECT BLOOD IN PPT 5 mL of whole blood in BD Vacutainer® PPT Gently invert the tube 8-10 times after draw Label the tube with collection date/time and at least 2 patient identifiers 2. CENTRIFUGE WITHIN 6 HOURS OF DRAW 1,100 RCF (g) for 10 mins at room temperature Do not transfer plasma If the gel plug does not rise to separate the cells from the plasma, the tube should be re-centrifuged at a higher speed 3. PACKAGE SPECIMEN Package the specimen and the requisition form using the supplies in the Karius Kit If the specimen is unlikely to reach Karius within 96 hours (4 days) of draw, specimen can be frozen directly in PPT ALTERNATIVE METHOD - In Lavender Top, K2-EDTA Tube 1. COLLECT BLOOD IN K2-EDTA TUBE Gently invert the tube 8-10 times after draw 2. CENTRIFUGE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF DRAW 1,600 RCF (g) for 10 mins at room temperature For tubes less than 4 mL, refer to the tube manufacturer’s instructions for centrifugation speed and time 3. TRANSFER PLASMA Transfer a minimum of 0.7 mL of plasma into a sterile polypropylene tube (we do not recommend pooling blood draws) Take care not to disturb the buffy coat Label the tube with collection date/time and at least 2 patient identifiers 4. PACKAGE SPECIMEN Package the specimen and the requisition form using the supplies in the Karius Kit The specimen needs to reach Karius within 96 hours (4 days) of draw PEDIATRIC METHOD - In Lavender Top, K2-EDTA Tube 1.
