Instructions
Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL blood *Pediatric minimum: 1 full microtainer* Do not use alcohol as a disinfectant when collecting. Use Zephiran or Benzalkonium Chloride to clean collection site.
Transport Temperature
DO NOT REMOVE TOP FROM COLLECTION CONTAINER. Keep tubes in a vertical position. It is required that the plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Do not use alcohol as a disinfectant when collecting or storing blood specimens. Separated samples may be stored for up to 2 weeks at 20 to 25°C, at 2 to 8°C for up to 6 months, or at -20°C are stable for up to 6 months. Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove particulates prior to testing. Ethanol is volatile. Specimens must be tightly capped to avoid evaporation. Store tightly capped inside a refrigerator to prevent evaporation of alcohol. Temozolomide at elevated concentrations may lead to falsely low results. Elevated lactic acid concentration and lactate dehydrogenase (LD) activity may falsely elevate enzymatically determined ethanol levels.
