Instructions
All specimens must be collected in a culture swab, eSwab or placed in a sterile container or syringe and transported to the laboratory within minutes of collection. A Gram stain is NOT included in this culture. 1. Deep wounds and abscesses: Collect in a syringe (expel air) with the needle removed or collect in a culture swab or an eSwab. 2. Percutaneous Transtracheal Aspiration: Collect in a syringe (expel air) with the needle removed or collect in a culture swab or an eSwab. 3. Bone Marrow: Collect a blood culture bottle set (which includes an anaerobic blood culture bottle) or collect in a syringe (expel air) with the needle removed. 4. Blood: Collect a blood culture bottle set (which includes an anaerobic blood culture bottle). 5. Surgical Specimens: Collect in a culture swab, an eSwab or a sterile container. 6. Fluids: Collect in a syringe (expel air) with the needle removed or a sterile container.


Transport Temperature
Transport to the laboratory immediately after collection. DO NOT refrigerate body fluids such as CSF or blood for culture.
