Assay is an automated in vitro diagnostic test for the qualitative detection and differentiation of DNA from Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG).
Preferred Specimen
Urine.
Cervix or vaginal swab collected using the Xpert CT/NG specimen collection swab system.
Minimum Volume
8 mls urine.
Instructions
The patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection. The patient should be instructed not to cleasnse prior to collection. The first stream of urine only should be collected.
Specimen Stability
First catch female urines must be received into the lab within 24 hours.
Male first catch urines must be received into the lab within 48 hours.
Male first catch urines must be received into the lab within 48 hours.
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
A sample received without a swab in the swab collection system will not be tested.

Real-time PCR detection of CT and NG by Cepheid Xpert.
