Preferred Specimen
The collection method of choice is masterbation without lubricants.  The specimen is preferably collected in the laboratory, but may be collected at home provided that the specimen is transported to the laboratory within 30 minutes of ejaculation and that the specimen is maintained at body temperature.  Alternate methods of collection are coitus interruptus or collection in a non-lubricated spermicide free condom.  Alternate methods are discouraged because of the loss of a portion of the ejaculation.

Minimum Volume
Maintain specimen at body temperature.

Instructions
It is recommended that the specimen be collected after a period of at least 48 hours of continence (abstinence).  This test is scheduled with the laboratory to ensure that the sample collection and analysis are performed within defined time lines. An information sheet will need to be completed that includes method of collection, time collected, container type, any transport issues.
