Preferred Specimen
Synovial or bile fluid in liquid EDTA or sodium heparin.


Minimum Volume
1 mL synovial or bile fluid at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)


Transport Temperature
1 mL synovial or bile fluid at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 12 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens will be rejected if needle is sent with specimen. Frozen specimens. Any fluid other than synovial or bile will be rejected. Synovial or bile fluids should not be collected in powdered EDTA or powdered lithium heparin.
