Minimum Volume
1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Transport Temperature
1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Heparinized plasma, vitreous and I.V. fluids. Specimens collected in gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate). Hemolyzed specimens.
Methodology
Chemiluminescent Immunoassay
Setup Schedule
Sun-Sat
Report Available
Within 24 hours
Limitations
Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.
Clinical Significance
This assay reacts on a nearly equimolar basis with insulin aspart, insulin glargine, and insulin lispro. To convert to pmol/L, multiply µIU/mL by 6.0.
