Test Code
3240

Alias/See Also
UTP; Total Protein, Urine

Preferred Specimen
"24-hour urine (no additive).
Also acceptable: random urine - see test code 3235.
Specimen must be refrigerated during collection."

Minimum Volume
4 mL aliquot from a well-mixed 24-hour collection at 2-8°C. (Min: 1 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Instructions
Collection of urine may be started at any time.  Void, but do not save any of the urine from the first void.  Collect all urine from that time for the next 24 hours.  Be sure to include the specimen at the end of the designated time period.  Refrigerate urine during the collection period.

Methodology
Spectrophotometry

Setup Schedule
Sun-Sat

Report Available
Within 24 hours

Limitations
Record total volume and collection time interval on transport tube and test request form.

Clinical Significance
