Preferred Specimen
One 3 mL plain red.  Also acceptable: green (sodium or lithium heparin).


Minimum Volume
1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in original tube.


Transport Temperature
1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in original tube.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 2 weeks


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens collected in lavender (EDTA), lt. blue (sodium citrate), gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate), or separator tubes.  Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens.
