Preferred Specimen
One 5 mL plain red.  Also acceptable: green (sodium or lithium heparin). No gel tubes.


Minimum Volume
1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in original tube.


Transport Temperature
1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in original tube.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens collected in citrate, oxalate/fluoride anticoagulants, or separator tubes (gel tubes).  Hemolyzed specimens.

Limitations
