Preferred Specimen
One 3 mL plasma separator tube.


Minimum Volume
1 mL plasma (Min: 0.5 mL) at room temperature.


Transport Temperature
1 mL plasma (Min: 0.5 mL) at room temperature.


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 2 days; Frozen: 6 months


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Samples exposed to multiple freeze/thaw cycles.

Limitations
Avoid serum samples.  Remove plasma from cells ASAP.  Samples must be free of particulate matter including fibrin which can interfere with the assay. For plasma samples: Avoid transferring material from the white blood cell/platelet layer located just above the red blood cells. 


Clinical Significance
0.3 ng/mL or less : Negative - repeat testing in four to six hours if clinically indicated.Greater than 0.3 ng/mL: Suspicious for myocardial injury.   Repeat testing in four to six hours if indicated.
