Preferred Specimen
Aspirates, body fluids, tissues, or material collected from areas without normal anaerobic flora.  Place specimen immediately into sterile anaerobe gel transport or sterile anaerobe swab system.


Minimum Volume
Anaerobe transport container at 20-25°C. Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Transport Temperature
Anaerobe transport container at 20-25°C. Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen from site with normal anaerobic flora, nonsterile or leaking containers, nonanaerobic containers, delayed transport to lab.
