Preferred Specimen
Stool.


Minimum Volume
5 g aliquot of stool in a clean unpreserved stool transport vial (ARUP Supply #40910), frozen. (Min: 1 g)


Instructions
For seven days before collection and during collection the following items should be avoided, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin (if ingesting more than one adult aspirin per day). Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be taken. For three days before collection and during collection the following items should be avoided, vitamin C supplements in excess of 250 mg a day, citrus juices, citrus fruits, and red meats.


Transport Temperature
5 g aliquot of stool in a clean unpreserved stool transport vial (ARUP Supply #40910), frozen. (Min: 1 g)


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 36 hours; Frozen: 3 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Stool in preservatives.
