Preferred Specimen
One 4 mL serum separator tube or plasma separator tube.  Also acceptable: lavender (K3EDTA) and green (sodium or lithium heparin).


Minimum Volume
1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.


Transport Temperature
1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 4 days; Frozen: 3 months


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens submitted in lt. blue (sodium citrate), or gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) transport tubes.

Limitations
Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature before centrifuging.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.
