Preferred Specimen
Serum separator tube. Also acceptable: Plasma separator tube, green (lithium heparin), lavender (EDTA), or pink (K2EDTA).


Minimum Volume
Refrigerated.


Instructions
Allow serum tube to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.3 mL)


Transport Temperature
Refrigerated.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 11 days; Refrigerated: 2 months; Frozen: 3 years (if frozen within 24 hours)


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolyzed specimens.
