Preferred Specimen
One 5 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin).  Collect on wet ice.


Minimum Volume
2 mL plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.25 mL)  Submit specimen in an PMC Standard Transport Tube.  Deliver to lab within 15 minutes of collection or separate from cells and freeze.


Transport Temperature
2 mL plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.25 mL)  Submit specimen in an PMC Standard Transport Tube.  Deliver to lab within 15 minutes of collection or separate from cells and freeze.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 6 months (unstable if thawed and refrozen)


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Serum or nonfrozen plasma. Specimens containing oxalate, citrate, EDTA, or whole blood samples over 15 minutes old.

Limitations
CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Collect on ice and separate plasma from cells and freeze ASAP (within 15 minutes of draw time).  Specimens need to be spun in a refrigerated centrifuge.
