Preferred Specimen
Collect green top tube with gel (PST) completely filled. Mix tube thoroughly after collection.
Minimum Volume
1 mL plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an PMC Standard Transport Tube.
Transport Temperature
1 mL plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an PMC Standard Transport Tube.
Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 1 month; Frozen: 1 month
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens containing calcium chelating anticoagulants such as oxalates, citrates, and EDTA.
Limitations
Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate plasma from cells ASAP.
