Preferred Specimen
One 4 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin), plasma separator tube, or serum separator tube.


Minimum Volume
1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.3 mL) Submit specimen in specimen transport tube in biohazard bag.


Transport Temperature
1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.3 mL) Submit specimen in specimen transport tube in biohazard bag.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 24 hours (except calcium and C02- 4 hours); Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 6 months


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens collected in EDTA, citrate, or oxalate anticoagulated.

Limitations
Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.
