Preferred Specimen
Light blue (sodium citrate). Refer to Specimen Handling at aruplab.com for hemostasis/thrombosis specimen handling guidelines.


Minimum Volume
CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.


Instructions
Transfer 2 mL platelet poor plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)


Transport Temperature
CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.


Specimen Stability
After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 8 hours; Frozen: 1 month


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Serum. Non-frozen or hemolyzed specimens.

Clinical Significance
The presence of rheumatoid factor may lead to false-positive results with the D-Dimer test. This test should not be used to rule out venous thromboembolism.Maximal values less than 10 are rarely indicative of DIC.Results are reported in Fibrinogen Equivalent Units (FEU).
