Preferred Specimen
Collect any purple top tube, filled at least half full. Gently invert the tube 5  times immediately after collection. Test includes WBC, RBC, HBG, HCT, and PLTS.


Minimum Volume
3 mL whole blood at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)


Transport Temperature
3 mL whole blood at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 24 hours except MPV - which is stable for only 8 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Frozen, clotted, or hemolyzed specimens.
