Instructions
Sample red areas or areas with pus in throat. Use tongue blade to prevent touching tongue and/or teeth with swab.

Regular ESwab. BD CultureSwab or other non-gel transport swab.

Specimen Stability
= 24 hours.


Methodology
Conventional culture with Lancefield grouping of beta hemolytic colonies resembling streptococci.

Setup Schedule
Specimens received and tested 24/7.


Report Available
Preliminary reports daily and when significant results detected. Final report after 2 days.


Limitations
Yield directly related to quality of specimen submitted and number of organisms captured on swab(s).


Clinical Significance
Detection significant for treatment to prevent sequelae from toxin production and internal organ involvement.
