Tissue from affected area. Swabs of tissue not recommended.
Minimum Volume
Dependent upon type of tissue submitted. Small volumes typically acceptable.
Instructions
Obtain tissue sample from affected area under sterile conditions.
Transport Container
Sterile screw cap container.
Transport Temperature
Ambient. Refrigerate if transport delayed.
Specimen Stability
=24 hours optimally.
Methodology
Tissue ground or minced. Conventional culture set up.
Setup Schedule
Cultures accepted and processed 24/7.
Report Available
Preliminary reports daily and when significant results detected. Final report after 6 days. STAT O.R. Gram stains reported within 30 minutes from lab receipt if swabs and 45 minutes if tissue.

If specimen to be shared with Pathology, please notify Microbiology at ext. 1889.
