Two inch segment near catheter tip.


Minimum Volume
One inch segment of catheter tip.


Instructions
Aseptically remove intravenous catheter from patient. Cut approximately 2 inches above the tip of the catheter with sterile blade/scissors.


Transport Container
Sterile screw cap container.


Transport Temperature
Ambient.


Specimen Stability
24 hours.


Methodology
Roll tip culture method with 15 CFU criteria for workup.

Setup Schedule
Cultures accepted 24/7.


Report Available
Preliminary reports daily and when significant results detected. Final report after 3 days.


Limitations
Culture yield directly related to quality of specimen submitted.
