Drainage from infected body site.
Instructions
Sample fresh drainage from site of infection with swab provided in regular Eswab collection kit or BD CultureSwab. Label transport tube with LIS/HIS order label or handwritten label according to lab protocol: patient last name, first name, date of birth, MR number if known, collection date/time, collector's initials.
Transport Container
Transport to laboratory ASAP at ambient temperature.
Transport Temperature
Ambient temperature or refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE.
Specimen Stability
Up to 24 hours, depending upon bacterial species present in sample.
Methodology
Conventional culture.
Setup Schedule
Cultures set up 24/7.
Report Available
Preliminary reports daily and when significant results detected. Final report after 3 days.
Limitations
