Preferred Specimen
Swab of vaginal area.
Minimum Volume
Swab in 0.5 ml saline

Urine for molecular testing. Requires special transport by reference lab.
Instructions
Sample vaginal area from symptomatic patient. Collect urine from males for molecular testing.
Transport Container
Sterile transport tube containing vaginal swab in at least 0.5 ml saline.
Transport Temperature
Ambient. Do not refrigerate/freeze.
Specimen Stability
= 1 hour from time of collection.
Methodology
Demonstration of organism movement detected by light microscopy.
Setup Schedule
Specimens received and tested 24/7. E.D. specimens STAT.
Report Available
One hour reporting time.
Limitations
Organisms die quickly at ambient or cooler temperatures.
