Interpretive Criteria
Single titers ≥1:64 usually indicate recent titer RSV infection. A four-fold or greater increase in titer between acute and convalescent specimens is required for diagnosis of RSV infection in adults and children >6 months of age. In contrast, titer only about 50% of infected children less than 6 titer months of age exhibit a four-fold or greater increase in titer. Viral isolation and RSV antigen detection methods are recommended for patients <6 months old.
