"For RECENT INFECTION. Nonreactive VDRL's will have an FTA-ABS
performed. REACTIVE FTA-ABS = PROBABLE PAST INFECTION; Nonreactive
FTA-ABS = PROBABLE FALSE POSITIVE SYPHILIS SCREEN, but past infection
cannot be ruled out."
