Limitations
The DCA Vantage A1c assay gives accurate and precise results over a range total hemoglobin of 7 to 24g/dL. Most patients have hemoglobin concentrations within these values. However, patients with severe anemia may have hemoglobin concentrations lower than 7g/dL, and patients with polycythemia may have hemoglobin concentrations above 24g/dL. Patient specimens should be sent to the laboratory to use a different methodology if their total hemoglobin concentrations are outside of this acceptable range.
Reference Range

2. Abnormal Low: Less than 4.0%
3. Abnormal High: Greater than 6.5%."

Clinical Significance
HbA1c is used to monitor the treatment of patients with Diabetes. Used on known diabetic patients to determine proper management of their disease
