Instructions
Clean genital area well; void 20-25ml into toilet, then collect without stopping stream. Prefer early morning specimen. Do not culture 24hr urines.


Transport Container
Wide-mouth sterile specimen cup.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Room temperature only if plated within two hours of collection, otherwise refrigerate.


Methodology

All beta-hemolytic Streptococcus will be further identified to rule out Group B Streptococcus to conform with the universal prenatal screening of all pregnant women at 35-37 weeks gestation. All GBS isolates identified will be tested for susceptibility to clindamycin and erythromycin for highly penicillin allergic women.
