Clinical Significance
"Establish evidence of early/acute infection with Bordetella pertussis, the causative agent of whooping cough. The presence of specific IgA in a single sample may indicate an acute infection and is considered suggestive of recent infection or a presumptive diagnosis of a supporting clinical presentation. Initially, in infants with pertussis, IgA antibody may not be detected; however, IgA reaches detectable levels six to seven weeks after infection.
