Preferred Specimen
Serum (Plasma containing citrate, oxalate, fluoride, EDTA, or heparin may be used.)


Minimum Volume
0.5 mL


Instructions
Separate serum or plasma immediately after coagulation (30 minutes). Not removing refrigerated specimens from the clot results in aldolase levels 12% to 46% higher.


Transport Container
Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube for serum; anticoagulation tube for plasma (see Specimen Type above).

Refrigerate

Room temp: 1 day; Refrigerated; 7 days; Frozen: 15 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolysis (red cells contain aldolase)
