Instructions
Ten-hour to 12-hour fasting is required. Separate serum from cells within 45 minutes of collection. Submit serum in gel-barrier tube or a plastic transport tube. NOTE: Specimens must remain refrigerated or on a frozen cool pack. Specimens may be sent frozen in a plastic transport tube when storage and shipping time total more than 72 hours from the time of collection.

Methodology
Direct analysis of lipoproteins by vertical density-gradient ultracentrifugation followed by measurement of the cholesterol distribution; triglycerides are measured enzymatically.
