Stool, liquid or semisolid
Stool samples should be collected in sealed container without the addition of preservatives.  Storage of specimens up to  5 days at 2-8 °C is acceptable if test can not be run immediately upon receipt.  


Instructions
Polymerase Chain Reaction for the direct detection of Clostridium difficile toxin gene (tcdb) in liquid or soft stool specimens.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)


New Clostridium difficile Screening Test – because of the increased sensitivity & specificity, a single diarrheal stool is tested.



Three separate specimens are no longer necessary. The test is recommended for patients with 3 or more watery, loose or



unformed stools per day. Repeat testing, following a positive test is not recommended because patients can carry toxigenic



C. difficile for months after clinical cure. All formed specimens for CDT testing will be rejected.
