Culturette Swab or 1 -2 mL fluid


Instructions
Test includes microscopic Examination of Gram Stained Smear for the presence of microorganisms. This test should not be ordered if routine culture, CSF Culture or Sputum Culture is ordered. (The Gram Stain is already included with these cultures). Collection procedure is same as the culture of the specific site. Gram Stain is not reliable for diagnosis of cervical, rectal, pharyngeal or asymptomatic urethral gonococcal infection or for diagnosis of streptococcal pharyngitis. Rejection criteria: Dried out Swab; Slide sprayed with Cytology Sprayed with Cytology Fixative.
