Preferred Specimen
Enclose Hair Specimens in Clean Paper in Envelopes or Sealed Petri Dish. Do not use cotton plugged tubes or rubber stopper tubes; Exudate, Clippings, Whole Nail or Debris under nail or Skin Scrapings Exudate


Instructions
If Dermatophytic infection suspected, consider DTM Fungus Screen. Careful choice of specimen is important. Wood's Lamp may be useful in selecting infected hairs. Pluck fluorescent hairs or non fluorescent hairs which are broken off and appear diseased with sterile forceps. If diseased hair stubs are not apparent, cleanse scalp Lesion with 70% Alcohol and scrape the edges with a sterile scalpel.
