Instructions
Potential pathogens including beta Streptococcus, Hemophilus and Streptococcus pneumoniae will be reported. If Neisseria gonorrhea is suspected, order CXGON. Group A and B Beta Streptococci remain universally susceptible to penicillin, therefore susceptibilities will not be performed. Nasal cultures do not predict etiological agents of sinus, middle ear or lower respiratory infections. If MRSA is suspected order CXMRSA.

Sputum, tracheal asp & bronch specimens considered lower respiratory.
