Instructions
If appropriate for the source, specimen will be cultured and billed for anaerobes. Also includes aerobic culture, Gram Stain, identification and aerobic susceptibility (if indicated). Beta-lactamase is performed on anaerobes. Anaerobic susceptibilities are not routinely performed, but available on request. Aseptically cleanse culture site prior to collection to avoid contamination from skin and mucus membranes. Specimens from sites that have anaerobic bacteria as normal flora will not be cultured. Plates held for 7 days following final report to allow further testing upon request.
