Preferred Specimen
Catheter Tip 1 - 2" Segment. Sterile Container (Foley Catheters unacceptable)


Instructions
Submit catheter segment, proximal, beginning 2 - 3 mm beneath the skin surface or culture of proximal segment. Deliver within 1 hour of collection. Disinfect skin with alcohol. No gram stain performed. Maki Semi-quantitative method used. Greater than 15 colonies, usually significant. Correlate with Blood Culture results.
