Collection Requirements: Collect a swab from one of the following sources using sterile collection techniques and immediately place into transport media. The collection swab must either be part of a cobasĀ® PCR media kit or must have an 80mm breakpoint. Anterior nares - Insert a nasal swab 1 to 1. 5 cm into a nostril. Rotate the swab against the inside of the nostril for 3 seconds while applying pressure with a finger to the outside of the nostril. Repeat on the other nostril with the same swab, using external pressure on the outside of the other nostril. Submit swab in transport media: Copan or BD Universal Transport media or cobasĀ® PCR media kitNasopharynx - Insert the swab into either nostril, passing it into the posterior nasopharynx. Rotate swab by firmly brushing against the nasopharynx several times.
