This test is only orderable as part of existing CSF related Order Panels/Order Sets in Epic.It is not a standalone test and a CSF Culture must also be ordered. When ordering, an indication for the order is required. The test algorithm will depend on the indication selected.

Instructions

Processing Instructions (Lab use only): Specimens must be processed immediately upon receipt into the lab. Do NOT centrifuge. Minimum Testing Volume: 0.5 mL Transport Temperature: Ambient Stability: Ambient: 24 hoursRefrigerated : 7 daysFrozen: Unacceptable Causes for Rejection: Insufficient volume, specimens submitted in inappropriate transport container s or temperature. CSF collected from indwelling CNS medical devices (shunt) is not acceptable.
