Patient Preparation: Patients should be relaxed in either a supine or upright position before blood is drawn. States of anxiety and stress can cause fluctuations in thecatecholamine levels. Draw specimen in a pre-chilled green-top vacutainer. Patient should avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco and strenuousexercise prior to collection. Overnight fasting is preferred. Immediate Specimen Processing: 1. Immediately after collection, place tube in an ice bath. Keep specimen Refrigerated /on ice until centrifgued. 2. Centrifuge specimen and transfer plasma to a plastic screw-cap tube prior to transportation. 3. Specimen must arrive at the lab within 6 hours of collection, otherwise transport frozen. Ambulatory Transport Temperature to Inova Central Lab: FrozenSpecimen Stability: 30 days
