GLUCOSE CHALLENGE
MessagePatient Preparation: The patient is nonfasting. But should not have had anything to eat at least 1 hour prior to having the test performed. 1. Provide the patient a 50-gram glucose load. It must be consumed in 5 minutes. If the patient vomits the test must be canceled, andrescheduled. 2. The patient can't eat, drink, smoke, or exercise while they are waiting the 1 hour after drinking the glucose load. Patient can only drink water. Instruct the patient that they will be drawn in one hour and must stay in the area. 3. One hour after ingestion of glucose, collect a blood specimen and process it according to the specimen type.
