Specimen Requirement: Submit only 1 of the following: - Urine: VCM (or equivalent). - Urogenital: Swab. VCM. (vaginal,cervical, urethral swabs or vaginal secretions) collected in VCM medium. -Body Fluid: VCM. Submit a 1: 1 volume of sterile body fluids, tissue, respiratory (sputum, bronchial washing, tracheobronchial secretions, bronchial alveolar lavage, nasopharyngeal swabs) in VCM or equivalent transport media. -Tissue: Sterile container . -Nasopharyngeal: Swab. VCM. -Respiratory (only acceptable from children under 1 year old). Sputum, bronchial washing, tracheobronchial secretions, bronchial alveolar lavage submitted in a VCM. Please note: Do not use M4RT; the room temperature formula cannot be used for mycoplasmaAmbulatory Transport Temperature to Inova Central Lab: Refrigerated ( Do not ship frozen from collection sites as -20 degrees C is unacceptable. Specimen must be frozen at -70 degrees for frozen transport). Specimen Stability: 48 hours

Processing Instructions: Please note: Do not use M4RT; the room temperature formula cannot be used for mycoplasmaUrine: Centrifuge urine at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes. Suspend sediment in VCM or equivalent transport media. If the specimen is not centrifuged, submit a 1: 1 volume of urine in VCM or equivalent transport media.
